penelope & mephisto

In the chaotic Berlin of the 1920s, a fragile writer and an ambitious actor consume a voracious love affair while the actor is married to the writer’s sister, who is herself in love with the writer’s fiancée. When fascism takes power and the actor sells his soul to the regime, their personal and political betrayals collide; devastated in exile, and sustained only by the fierce complicity of his closest sister, the author transforms the ruins of that forbidden labyrinth into the novel Mephisto.

A theater play on development.
